John Snr started racing in the 70's for a short period, and restarted again in 2007 on board a 1988 GSXR1100, soon followed by another 2 GSXR1100s and currently riding the McLean Racing built 1700cc GSX1400 Nitrous Outlaw, which is currently the quickest and fastest GSX1400 in the world, with a best of 7.56@183mph. Its is also the UK record holder for a no bar nitrous bike.

In 2025 he will once again be riding in Comp Bike with the goal of pushing it even deeper into the 7 second zone with the aim to take the European no bar nitrous record.
